At Work With: McCann Health North America's Tammy Fischer
Tammy Fischer is chief growth officer at McCann Health North America.
What was your biggest break?
I would have to say it was the opportunity to rebuild and transform an agency. I didn't realize that was the task at the time, but looking back, it taught me to practice my "personal standard" regardless of the situation [and] the importance of who you surround yourself with and the value of the culture you create.
What's the best and/or worst part of your job?
By far the best part of the job is the ability to problem-solve for clients and draw upon our “McCann-ness.” It is too soon to say what has been challenging beyond my driving skills and sense of direction.
Who is the person you admire most in your area of work?
I am fortunate to have worked for several great people in the industry that have truly shaped my values, encouraged curiosity and critical thinking, taught me to “cross the finish line,” and most importantly, to lead with grace. This question makes me realize that I should say “thank you” more often. But when I think beyond mentorship, nothing is as powerful as when you see the courage on a patient's face, completely unknown to you, with the will and determination to fight a disease.
What was your greatest professional challenge?
Our business is fueled by talent — the best and the brightest. Building teams that can go beyond what is expected to achieve truly inspired work and deliver on business goals is both art and science. The conflict that can arise from that pursuit can be challenging — but it can also be rewarding if healthy conflict is embraced. Creativity is a shared responsibility by all; the greatest work has never been “neat" and is not achieved without some degree of conflict.
