Publicis Healthcare Communications Group promoted Sam Welch to president of North America advertising and tapped chief development officer Linda Szyper to lead the network's Strategy and Analytics Group and Cortex Healthcare Marketing. Welch was previously COO for North America, having risen through the ranks at Saatchi & Saatchi. In addition to heading North American ad agencies, he will “work to enhance and embed the capabilities of Integrated Services and In-Sync into PHCG's global offering,” said a PHCG release.

inVentiv's GSW Worldwide named Dan Smith president of its Columbus office. Smith has been co-leading the Columbus office for two years, overseeing account and creative services. Dave Bowers continues to serve as chief creative officer at the shop, while Victor Zambrotta becomes EVP, head of client services, replacing Doug Mills, who becomes chief operating officer.

Burson-Marsteller named Melissa Grigorieff Koomey managing director and head of the West Coast healthcare practice. Koomey joins the PR shop from FibroGen, a research-based biotech. She will be based in San Francisco and report to global health practice chair Helene Ellison.
