AMM names Kurland's successor

The Association of Medical Media (AMM) announced that Dennis Johnson has been named executive director of operations, succeeding MaryBeth Kurland, who was promoted to chief relationship officer.

As chief relationship officer, MaryBeth Kurland is tasked with strategic issues and “handling the relationship between [Association Headquarters] and the AMM,” as well as overseeing Johnson, according to Kurland. Association Headquarters is the management company that owns the AMM.

In his new role, Johnson's duties will include daily management of the AMM, including budgeting, financial management, staff oversight, membership recruitment and support, monthly meetings and annual awards ceremonies, publicity and new program development.

Johnson has an extensive background in pharma, and served in various sales and marketing capacities at Abbott Laboratories (seven years), Parke-Davis (prior to Pfizer's acquisition of the company) and Novartis (a couple of years), before acquiescing to the “burn out factor,” according to Johnson.

He then moved into the non-profit sector, serving as director of marketing and development at the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses, then as marketing and development manager at the Rheumatology Nurses Society, before joining the Society for Biomaterials, where he currently serves as assistant executive director at the Society for Biomaterials.
