FDA releases new draft social media guidance

FDA released two guidance documents today for manufacturers and their representatives to communicate online about prescription drugs and medical devices.

The first draft guidance focused on recommendations for risk/benefit information on services with character space limitations, like Twitter and paid search on Google or Yahoo.

The second guidance discussed how to correct third-party information related to their own prescription drugs and medical devices, and stated that all misinformation should be addressed in a visible and defined portion of a forum on the internet or social media—regardless of whether it's positive or negative.

An in-depth analysis will follow tomorrow.
