Simulators help industry design better trials

Computers are helping drug companies design smarter clinical trials. The Wall Street Journal reports that manufacturers, such as Pfizer, are using simulators to troubleshoot trial designs and identify potential shortcomings, such as too few patients, before implementation.

The WSJ says the hope is that these programs can cut down on the number of drugs which fail to get regulatory approval due to trial shortcomings, rather than due to issues with the drugs themselves.
