MM&M sister publication Clinical Advisor launched an app September 25 that has already captured more than 92,000 page views and almost 20,000 app launches.
The app, created for nurse practitioners and physician assistants, offers content from the print journal, as well as tools like Derm Dx quizzes that present information about hard-to-identify dermatologic conditions. The smartphone-tablet app also includes practice-ready tools, such as medical calculators that help evaluate blood pressure, determine body mass and assess liver function. In addition to these features, the apps provide access to news about disease outbreaks and drug recalls, as well as medical slideshows and accredited CME/CE courses from the myCME education library.
The app was developed though a collaboration between publishing parent Haymarket Media and US Biomedical Systems. Clinical Advisor Editor Joe Kopcha told MM&M in an email that there were 899 downloads of the app between October 4 and October 11, bringing the to-date download total to 5,205.
Although the app is currently compatible only with Apple’s OS, the publication said in a statement that it expects to launch an Android version later this year. The launch means Haymarket has created five apps for US healthcare professionals. A company VP said in an internal email that this latest push “ties together two additional powerful Haymarket Medical tools needed by Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants: the MPR drug database and myCME.com courses for continuing education credit.”
