MAHF honors Abbate and Lazur, Future Famers

The Medical Advertising Hall of Fame on Wednesday night honored dozens of industry leaders and rising agency executives, at its annual black-tie event in New York City.

Ryan Abbate, founder of Pacific Communications, and Mike Lazur, former worldwide chief creative officer at Torre Lazur, were both inducted into the Hall of Fame. Neither Abbate nor Lazur was able to attend the event, which was rescheduled after a snowstorm hit New York City earlier this month.

The MAHF also awarded two heritage awards, to a Biaxin ad created for what is now AbbVie and to a Prevacid ad for what is now Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Both ads were developed by AbelsonTaylor.

The Digital Pioneer Awards went to a website for Takeda's Rozerem, also created by AbelsonTaylor, and to an online portal for Merck's Zetia. That portal was created by what is now TBWA\WorldHealth.

The MAHF, as part of its 2011 shift in mission to provide career development and recognition to people in earlier stages of their careers in medical advertising as well as honor industry leaders, recognized 19 younger leaders in the industry, as part of its Future Famers program.

The organization announced plans to expand its career accelerator program, beyond New York to Chicago and Philadelphia later this year.
