It should come as no surprise to see some of the biggest brands in pharmaceutical marketing, like Pfizer’s Viagra and Johnson & Johnson’s Invokana, named as finalists for best multichannel campaign in the large-budget category in the 2015 MM&M Awards.

Other finalists in the closely watched category include FCB Health and Actavis/Ironwood for “Line Drawings”; Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness and Merial for the “Dogs in Your Face” campaign for NexGard, a flea-and-tick treatment for dogs; and Wunderman Health and GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare for “A Greater Digital Ecosystem.”

(BBDO worked with Pfizer on “The Woman Campaign” for Viagra, while the “Love Your Numbers” campaign for Janssen’s Type-2 diabetes drug Invokana was done by Hill Holliday.)

Finalists in each of the 32 categories for this year’s MM&M Awards are revealed below but the winners won’t be announced until Thursday, October 1, at a dinner at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. The MM&M Awards honor the best in healthcare marketing, communications and media.

One change in this year’s awards program was the criteria for the three multichannel campaign categories (categories 22, 23 and 24). Entrants were asked to select the appropriate category based on the marketing spend allotted for the campaign (small, midsized or large budget), rather than the previous rule where the three categories were sized based on the client’s total annual revenue.

MM&M changed the criteria to help ensure campaigns submitted within each of the three categories would be judged against comparably budgeted work as well as to reflect ongoing changes in industry marketing spend.

It’s also the first year that the awards will honor the best product launch (category 25). Some of the same agency-client partners were named finalists in this category as well, including Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness and Merial for NexGard, Wunderman Health and GSK Consumer Healthcare for over-the-counter Flonase, and Hill Holliday and J&J’s Janssen for Invokana.

Other finalists for best launch include CAHG and Gilead Sciences for hepatitis-C therapy Sovaldi and McCann Echo and Galderma for Soolantra, a rosacea treatment.

All entries underwent two rounds of a comprehensive judging process performed by about 100 industry leaders. The first group of judges, working online, winnowed the entries down to the best 10 entrants in every category, and a separate group of judges attended a daylong judging event held live June 29 in New York, where their scoring further whittled the list down to the finalists below. Not even the judges know the identity of the winners.
