Purdue launched RxSafetyMatters, a “new online resource…to help healthcare professionals, law enforcement and community organizations combat the illegal diversion and abuse of prescription medications.” Purdue, whose products include abuse-prone opiates, hosts SafeguardMyMeds.org, for safe storage and disposal of prescription meds. 

Augme Technologies, a mobile marketing technology shop with a substantial healthcare business, acquired Hipcricket, a mobile marketing ad agency based in the Seattle suburbs, for $44.5 million—$6 million of that in cash, the rest in stock. The combined company will have business with ten of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies along with six top media firms and four top agencies. Augme will take on Hipcricket’s staff, the shop said, who will continue to handle their old accounts. 

A breast cancer survivor and digital agency founder, Maliet Lopez, launched IHadCancer.com, a social networking site meant to connect cancer survivors, their friends and family. Lopez was a partner at Squeaky Wheel Media when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She launched the site to help others combat the feeling of isolation she felt during treatment of the disease.
