State workers in Georgia will soon see their co-pay for prescription drugs reach up to $100 for certain brand-name pharmaceuticals, according to an article in today's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
In what may be the highest co-pay in the country, the move is the starkest demonstration yet of employers' aggressive efforts to rein in the rising cost of prescription drug-benefits by driving employees to lower-cost medicines, the article stated.
Employer drug costs rose 83.4 percent over the past five years, an average of 16.7 percent each year, according to numbers from Mercer Human Resource Consulting.
