Emergency medicine pioneer dies following car crash

John Wiegenstein, founder and first president of the American
College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), died Oct. 28 following a car crash near Naples, Fla., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Wiegenstein, 74, was considered by many in the industry as a trailblazer in establishing emergency medicine as a specialty and helped form the ACEP in 1968.
