FDA called out marketers of unproven Ebola treatments for their use of search engine marketing tactics, according to RAPS. The agency said three companies improperly used “metatags,” which search engines use to populate search results. The FDA and FTC told Ebola-C, LifeSilver and BodyHealth that “to make or exaggerate such claims, whether directly or indirectly, through the use of a product name, website name, metatags, or other means, without rigorous scientific evidence sufficient to substantiate the claims, violates the Federal Trade Commission Act.”
