FDA warns on abortion pill infection risk

The FDA warned doctors yesterday to be on the lookout for rare but deadly bacterial infections in women using Danco Laboratories' abortion pill RU-486.
The warning stated that four women have died from sepsis, an infection of the bloodstream, following use of the drug, also known as Mifeprex.
Although all of the cases were reported in California and involve the off-label use of the drug, the FDA is asking all doctors to look for the symptoms of the infection while the agency reviews the cases.
