Global pharmaceutical industry group, the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations launched its new Web site Wednesday giving details of clinical trials of new medicines.
The new search engine establishes links to information posted on pharmaceutical company-owned websites and other commercial or government-sponsored websites with detailed information about most new clinical trials.
The voluntary guidelines say that clinical trial results should be published within one year of a medicine's approval or, for trials on drugs that have already been approved, within one year of the trial being completed.
Novartis chief executive Daniel Vasella, said in a statement, "This portal shows the pharmaceutical industry's commitment to full transparency in the interest of patients and healthcare professionals."
The Web site has the backing of industry giants including Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Merck and Sanofi-Aventis.
