Healthy-habit trackers have short-lived appeal

Mobile health trackers are amazing—for the first six months. MobiHealth News reports that although consumers are handing over cash for items and apps by makers like Fitbit, Polar Loop, Withings and Jawbone, they tend to stop using them after about half a year. The site also notes that a separate survey indicated that around 29% of activity monitors were given as gifts.

The falloff falls into perspective however, when taking into account the most recent data from the nonprofit Pew Research's Internet Project, whose data showed mobile trackers are still a relatively small market: 49% said they kept a mental record of what they had eaten or how much they had moved, while 34% said they relied on pads and paper, and just 21% used “some form of technology.”
