Industry-backed trials are positive

An analysis of studies registered on ClinicalTrials.gov showed those funded by industry were more apt to show positive outcomes but less apt to be published shortly after completion than trials funded by other sources.

Out of 546 trials, noted researchers writing in Annals of Internal Medicine, industry-funded trials reported positive outcomes in 85% of publications vs. 50% for government-funded trials, and 72% for nonprofits or non-federal organization-funded trials. The rate of publication within two years of study completion ranged from 32% among industry-funded trials to 56% among nonprofit or nonfederal organization–funded trials without industry contributions.
