The American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics is launching its first fully open-access publication. CPT: Pharmacometrics & Systems Pharmacology will be published by ASCPT with the Nature Publishing Group. While this is a new format for ASCPT,  NPG has considerable experience in the area: their website says about 90% of the academic and society journals that they publish are open-access.

The new publication, which will be referred to in short-hand as CPT:PSP, will focus on original research in advances in quantitative methods as they are applied in pharmacology, physiology and therapeutics in humans. Articles will be covered by a Creative Commons license, which means that readers will be able to download and share them, and that the authors will be assessed a per-article processing fee for submissions. ASCPT told MM&M that advertising will support the subscription-free service. “I think this is a great opportunity for our discipline and recognition of its continuously growing impact in clinical pharmacology and drug development,” CPT:PSP Editor-in-Chief Pieter van der Graaf said in a statement.

Mega-publisher Wiley-Blackwell is expanding its reach as well, with the addition of 44 journals to its portfolio. The portfolio expansion includes 16 new-to-market titles, as well as 28 that are coming over from other publishers or were originally self-published. Wiley will be publishing the majority of the new journals as a partner with several societies and organizations. These titles include European Journal of Pain, Pharmacotherapy, The Journal of Human Pharmacology and Drug Therapy and Biology of the Cell.

The new catalogue will also increase the Wiley Open Access program by eight titles, including The Journal of the American Hearth Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular, Cancer Medicine and Food and Energy Security.
