Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals has appointed Gary Shangold, MD, FACOG, chief medical officer and Timothy Arendt VP of sales. Both will report to Greg Flexter, Xanodyne
president and CEO. Shangold, an obstetrician/gynecologist and reproductive
endocrinologist, will oversee Xanodyne's late-stage pipeline in women's health
and pain management. He has held leadership roles at Johnson & Johnson, the
RW Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute and Serono, as well as academic
positions in the field of OB/GYN and reproductive endocrinology at Harvard Medical
School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He is a past president of the
American Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians, past president of consulting
company Convivotech and past president, CEO and director of NovaDel Pharma.
Arendt most recently had been SVP and GM of Valeant Pharmaceuticals' US
Pharmaceuticals division. Prior roles included sales and marketing positions at
GlaxoSmithKline and director of marketing in GSK's Care Management Division.
AGENCIES
AbelsonTaylor, the
largest independent advertising agency in the healthcare field, has promoted Michelle
Dwyer to senior art director. Dwyer, previously
art director, will continue her work on US and global brands in the areas of
acid reflux and oncology. She reports to Stephen Neale, SVP, executive creative director. Before joining AbelsonTaylor in 2006,
she spent three years as art
director at Williams-Labadie, a healthcare agency in Chicago, where she handled
professional and consumer healthcare accounts. Prior to that, she was associate
art director at Flair Communications, a promotional agency in Chicago. Her work
has garnered honors from both the Rx Club and MM&M Awards.
Pacific Communications
has welcomed two former colleagues back to the agency, Christie Cruz and Nicole Stark. Cruz, who left Pacific after attaining the role of
senior copywriter, returned as associate creative director, will oversee creative work on Botox
Cosmetic, Juvederm injectable gel and other facial aesthetic products for client
Allergan. Among her intervening assignments, she had been CD at DevicePharm, ACD
at Ignite Health and group creative leader at FCB Healthcare (now Draftfcb Healthcare). Stark, who previously
worked with Allergan on physician-dispensed skin care products, rejoins as account
supervisor on the Botox Cosmetic team. Among her past roles, she had been a
sales rep with McNeil Consumer and Specialty Pharmaceuticals and an account
executive at Bates USA Advertising and at Campbell Mithun.

PDI, Inc, a provider of commercialization services to the biopharmaceutical
industry, has named Peter B. Tilles as president of TVG Marketing Research and
Consulting, effective immediately. Tilles has more than 20 years experience in
marketing, strategy, sales and business development. His expertise is in
identifying new profitable revenue sources and driving business growth. Tilles
is a co-founder and currently serves on the board of directors of MedAvante, a
pharmaceutical R&D services company conducting centralized assessments for
mood disorder clinical trials. He is also co-founder of RecordMyCalls.Com, an
internet-based consumer protection/telecommunications company focused on
providing virtual digital call recording capabilities to consumer's and
small/medium sized businesses. Prior to his entrepreneurial career, Tilles
spent several years with Citigroup and UBS where he led or co-led the
development of two online banking and brokerage businesses as well as multiple
strategic planning initiatives. Most recently, Tilles was a consultant with
The Bancorp Bank, focusing on a broad-range of strategic planning, product
development and management areas. Tilles is also board president of The Susan
G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation of Central & Southern New Jersey.
