People news: Boston Scientific and Elan

Share this article:
Boston Scientific named J&J devices chief Michael Mahoney president and, eventually, CEO. Mahoney joins from J&J, where he was worldwide chairman of the Medical Device and Diagnostics Group. He will replace Ray Elliott in those roles, though Cardiology, Rhythm and Vascular Group head Hank Kucheman will serve as interim CEO until November 1, 2012 when Mahoney assumes that role.

Elan named former FDA commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach, MD to its board of directors, along with former Biogen Idec exec Hans Peter Hasler (currently chairman of HBM Bioventures AG and principal of HPH Management GmbH). The Dublin-based company's executive director, Shane Cooke, has stepped down from the board but will stay on with the firm past its planned merger with Alkermes as president.
