Merck KGaA’s EMD Serono announced on Friday that president Fereydoun Firouz had resigned from his positions there “to pursue other professional opportunities” after 22 years with the company. Chief Commercial Officer James Hoyes will assume his duties until a permanent replacement is named. Merck KGaA acquired EMD Serono in 2006. Firouz took the reins as president and CEO in 2003 and is credited with tripling the revenues and capabilities of the US organization during his tenure as head of the unit.
