MANUFACTURERS Biogen Idec appointed Susan Alexander to EVP, general counsel and corporate secretary. Alexander joins Biogen Idec from Parexel International, where she served as SVP, general counsel and corporate secretary. Pfizer named Amal Naj VP, investor development and strategy. He succeeds Jim Gardner, who will retire in April after 29 years of service to Pfizer. In his new position, Naj will work closely with Pfizer senior management in representing the firm’s business to investors and analysts in the US and overseas. Barr Pharmaceuticals has promoted Paul Bisaro to the newly created position of president and COO. In his new capacity Bisaro will be responsible for coordinating the activities of Barr’s proprietary and generic businesses. Former US Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders has been named medical director of Apothecus Pharmaceutical Corporation. Elders will contribute to product development and will assist in raising public awareness about a range of health issues for women. Apothecus Pharmaceutical manufacturers and markets several women’s health over-the-counter consumer products. Skyepharma appointed Argeris Karabelas as chairman to succeed Ian Gowrie-Smith, who resigned in January. Karabelas, an executive director of Care Capital, a health care investment fund, has been a nonexecutive director of SkyePharma since 2000. AGENCIES Blue Diesel, a part of the inChord Communications division of Ventiv Health, named John Hondroulis as account director. He is responsible for leading the strategy and development for marketing initiatives across all interactive and technology-driven applications. PDI hired Larry Perini as an additional executive director in the business development unit of PDI Performance Sales Teams. Perini will be responsible for identifying and cultivating prospective client relationships. Lanmark Group has promoted Danielle Malyska to senior account executive. Previously, Malyska held the position of account executive at Lanmark. The Falk Group has hired Jerry Godbehere as EVP, director of client services. Godbehere comes from Pfizer, where he worked in a variety of therapeutic areas, including neuroscience, antimicrobials, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and men’s health. Most recently, he was VP, global learning and development, at Pfizer. Medical communications company Edward Newland Associates promoted Ted Newland to president and COO. Newland is the son of agency founders Ned and Jean Newland and represents a continuity of family involvement with the 21-year-old company. The Frause Group, a Seattle-based public relations, marketing and business analysis firm, has hired Chelsey Garrett as an account coordinator. Seidler Bernstein, a Cambridge, Mass.–based marketing communications agency specializing in healthcare and life sciences, has promoted Christopher Dimmock to VP, brand strategy. In his new role, Dimmock will oversee all strategic planning and market research for Seidler Bernstein clients. MEDIA The Jobson Medical Group has added Megan Duncan as account manager of Pulmonary Reviews. Duncan spent the last three years as a member of the Conectics media planning team in Parsippany and Morristown, NJ. Her most recent assignment was as a media planner on the Novartis/Esprit Pharma/Roche/ESP Pharma accounts.
