Judee Shuler has been promoted to director, corporate planning and communications at Eisai. Previously, she was associate director, corporate planning and communications. In her new role, Shuler will direct public relations activities for Eisai's products, with specific emphasis on oncology/critical care. Prior to Eisai, Shuler was director of global healthcare communications at Ohmeda. Her professional experience also includes working as a newspaper reporter and editor; editor of Pharmaceutical Executive magazine; and member of the communications team at the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association (now PhRMA). Additionally, Eran Nadav has been promoted to director, business development at Eisai. His previous position was associate director, scientific evaluation. In his new role, he will assume additional responsibilities for identifying and executing strategic business deals for Eisai. Before joining Eisai in 2003, Nadav worked as a Scientific and Technological Analyst at Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation, the venture capital arm of Johnson & Johnson.
Kane & Finkel has announced several new hires and promotions. Tara D’Andrea joins as account group supervisor from Integrated. Wendy Wittkofski, previously at Williams-Labadie, joins as editor. Scott Sims joins as account coordinator and Talib Wilson comes aboard as systems administrator. Stefanie Peischl has been promoted to VP/director of client services from management supervisor. Tania Bono has been named account executive from account coordinator and Yvonne Kim was named account executive from account coordinator.
Commonhealth professional advertising and promotion unit Noesis has announced the appointment of John Dietz as executive vice president, chief creative officer. Dietz brings to the post nearly 20 years of experience and expertise in the advertising and pharmaceutical marketing industries. Dietz launched his career in the late 1980s as a copywriter at his father's agency, Dietz Advertising, in Rhode Island. Following his tenure there, he built his career with key creative positions at a number of healthcare advertising agencies, including Cline Davis & Mann (CDM), KPR, Robert A. Becker, LLNS and Medicus, all located in New York City. Immediately prior to joining Noesis, he served as senior vice president, group creative director at DDB Rx, a subsidiary of CDM.
AAIPharma, global provider of product development and support services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries has appointed Julie Ward Crocker as VP, commercial strategy and development. Crocker was previously VP, new product development for Mylan Bertek Pharmaceuticals.
WebMD has hired Andrew Mataraso and Stacey Newman Weldon as account directors for WebMD the Magazine. Each will be responsible for growing relationships with advertisers. Most recently, Weldon was Eastern advertising sales manager for Budget Living Magazine and Mataraso was senior therapeutic consultant for Cyberonics. Mataraso’s pharmaceutical background also includes a senior sales role at Eli Lilly, where he helped launch Cymbalta, Strattera and Zyprexa IM.
Dowden Health Media has appointed David Farley and Jon van Heerden to editor-in-chief and deputy editor respectively for its general surgery journal, Contemporary Surgery. Farley, a professor of surgery at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and consultant at Mayo Clinic Department of Surgery, has been on the journal’s editorial board since 1999, and a Diagnostic and Surgical Dilemma section editor since 2000. Van Heerden is a professor of surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston was professor of Surgery at Mayo Medical School for more than three decades and also served as president of the American and International Associations of Endocrine Surgeons. He has been on the journal’s editorial board since the mid-1990s. Farley replaces John Daly who has been editor-in-chief since 1996. Daly, currently dean of Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, PA, will be named editor-in-chief Emeritus.
Haymarket Medical has hired Darrin O’Neill to the position of sales VP. Prior to joining Haymarket, O’Neill worked for the medical education company Medical DecisionPoint for three years as director, business development.
