Solvay Pharmaceuticals CEO Laurence Downey, MD, will retire effective April 30th and will be succeeded by Stephen Hill, the Marietta, GA, firm said in a statement. Hill will join Solvay on April 1st as president and CEO.


Paul Sloan, MD, will take over as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Opioid Management, Weston Medical Publishing announced.


Lisa Welford, RPh, CGP, has joined healthcare marketing communications firm Pinnacle Health Communications as VP, clinical product development.


The Healthcare Businesswomen's Association (HBA) formally installed Elizabeth Mutisya, MD, as its 2008 president at a board meeting this month. Mutisya is a consultant for McKinsey & Co. According to HBA, she is also its first African-American president. In line to succeed her in 2009 is HBA president-elect Christine Zak, VP of the allergy business unit at Sanofi-Aventis. The HBA is marking its 30th anniversary this year with what it says is an expanded commitment to furthering the advancement of women leaders in healthcare worldwide.
