Merck has announced the appointment of Mervyn Turner to the newly created position of chief strategy officer. The position will be in addition to Turner's current role as senior vice president, worldwide licensing & external research for Merck research laboratories. As chief strategy officer, Turner will report to Richard Clark, CEO, and be responsible for coordinating with the company's executive committee in leading the formulation of execution of Merck's long term strategic plan.
Elan Corporation has appointed Mary Stutts to senior vice president, head of corporate relations, effective immediately. Stutts will be responsible for public policy positioning and communications, patient advocacy strategy and relations, internal and employee communications, and external communications, including all media, brand and positioning activity. Stutts was head of corporate relations at Genentech for seven years, prior to the move.
Medtronic has announced the appointment of Francine Kaufman as vice president, global medical affairs, for the company's diabetes business. Kaufman will report to Chris O'Connell, president of the diabetes business and senior vice president at Medtronic.
