Fereydoun Firouz
has been appointed CEO and president of EMDSerono. In this new capacity, Firouz, a 17-year organization veteran, will spearhead the expansion of EMD Serono's footprint in the US pharmaceutical arena, including business and therapeutic area growth; driving the strategic direction of the US organization; and managing the day-to-day operations of the US affiliate of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. Firouz has been a member of the Executive Management Committee of Merck Serono since January 2007.  From 2001 until his appointment as president in 2003, Firouz was EVP, reproductive health North America, where he was responsible for re-engineering the sales and marketing organization for the company's US reproductive health business. From 1998 to 2001, Firouz was VP, Latin America for Serono SA where he oversaw the successful launches of a variety of products. Prior to his tenure in Latin America, Firouz held positions of increasing responsibility in Serono's IBO region as director and ultimately VP where he was instrumental in creating new operating entities in Greece, Turkey, Israel, Central Europe and the Middle East. Firouz began his career at Serono in 1989 as a government affairs associate in Serono's Washington, DC office.


Medical products for the global aesthetic market company Mentor Corporation announced that Loren McFarland, VP and CFO will be leaving the company effective Nov. 12. “(McFarland) has had a 22-year career with Mentor Corporation and contributed significantly to the company's long term growth and success," commented Joshua Levine, president and CEO. “After our strategic repositioning of the company over the past several years, (McFarland) has expressed a desire to spend more time with his family and on personal interests and to consider other business opportunities.” Mentor announced that it was in the final stages of selecting a candidate to replace McFarland, and that Valerie Miller, the company's VP and controller, would assume McFarland's duties on an interim basis, if necessary.
