Insurers have found a way to work around covering certain patients: pricey HIV medications. Bloomberg reports that Harvard University researchers found that 25% of ACA-compliant plans “forced AIDS patients to pay 30% or more of the cost of all drugs in the class, a practice that may deter patients with HIV from enrolling in those plans.”

Bloomberg notes that the study overlaps with a civil rights complaint filed with the Department of Health and Human Services that contends insurers were discriminating against AIDS patients.
