RevolutionHealth.com debuts, new partnerships announced

After spending three months in preview mode, RevolutionHealth.com, the brainchild of America Online co-founder Steve Case, made its official debut. Case, CEO of Revolution Health Group (RHG), announced the launch of the site during a live Web cast held last Thursday. Case also announced a series of partnerships to bolster the new Web offering. RHG has acquired TLContact, provider of CarePages (carepages.com), an Internet service for building online communities supporting communication among family and friends when someone is receiving care, such as when a mother gives birth or when a loved one faces a serious medical condition. RHG has also partnered with iVillage Total Health, a consumer health destination for women from iVillage, a division of NBC Universal, to offer tools to help women to manage their health and the health of their families by assessing their risk for diseases including diabetes, stroke and heart disease. As part of the partnership, iVillage Total Health will offer RevolutionHealth.com’s “KnowYourRisk” assessment tool, scheduled to debut on health.iVillage.com in June. The tool can be used by women to measure the cumulative risk for type II diabetes, stroke and heart disease in the next five years for every family member. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), with a membership of 94,000 physician and medical students, also announced that it has partnered with RHG. RHG said family physicians will be able to direct their patients toward specific information by creating their own highly personalized home pages on RevolutionHealth.com, where they can recommend interactive tools, trackers and blogs to help improve their patients’ personal health. Columbia University Medical Center has also teamed up with RHG to create a new internet destination for pregnancy and maternal health on RevolutionHealth.com. Columbia’s department of obstetrics and gynecology doctors and researchers will participate in weekly blogs to answer questions from online visitors and provide online access to original articles and research through the RevolutionHealth.com Web site. RHG said in a statement it will also work with nonprofit groups, such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Society for The Women's Health Research, Autism Speaks, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, American Public Health Association, Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure, National Family Caregivers Association and The Wellness Community, to “raise awareness of health issues and encourage consumers to be more actively involved in promoting their own health.” Case said, “While Revolution Health will be a journey over many years to come, we are excited today to launch a site that is the cornerstone of our efforts to revolutionize healthcare…There is a lot of great health information and tools on the Internet, but nobody has assembled them in a way that is compelling and useful for consumers who want to take more control of their family's health. We've scoured the landscape to find the very best health tools and content, and we've put them together all in one place -- and made them all free. We will continue to work to build -- in partnership with dozens of organizations and millions of people -- the Internet's leading health site.” Since launch of the site’s test version, RevolutionHealth.com has assembled an audience of 486,000 unique visitors in March, according to figures from the research firm comScore Media Metrix.
