Brian Russell, RPh, MBA, has been hired as director of medical education for Roche Laboratories—a new position—the company said.

Russell reports to Jean Fagan, MS.ED, MPH, leader, US scientific communications.

The job represents a change in direction for Russell, who spent 15 years prior at Philadelphia-based medical communications agency Vox Medica. He most recently served as partner and president of Vox Medica's accredited CME division, Institute for Continuing Healthcare Education.

Before that Russell, a registered pharmacist, served for six years as executive director of institutional extension services at Philadelphia School of Pharmacy and Science, which has since changed its name to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

A Roche spokesperson said someone else had held the post briefly prior to Russell but that the position is essentially a new one within the Nutley, NJ, company's medical affairs department.
