1. Some U.S. hospitals said they haven't received discounts for Valeant Pharmaceuticals International's two high-priced heart drugs Isuprel and Nitropress. Valeant CEO Joseph Papa said that some hospitals aren't seeing discounts because they were made available primarily through group purchasing organizations. (Bloomberg)

2. The U.N. General Assembly will spend an entire day on Wednesday discussing the issue of superbugs and antibiotic resistance at its meeting in New York. This marks the fourth time the organization has come together to talk about a health crisis. (NPR)

3. AstraZeneca said a combination of two of its diabetes drugs – Bydureon and Forxiga – significantly decreased blood sugar, weight, and blood pressure in 700 clinical trial patients in a study and could be used to delay insulin treatment. The combined drugs lowered blood sugar levels more than either medication alone. (Bloomberg)

4. President Barack Obama declared September 18 to September 24 as Prescription Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week. Obama has called on Congress to provide $1.1 billion in funding to fight the epidemic. (White House)

5. ICYMI: Diabetes management systems Glooko and Diasend have merged. The two companies will now be known as Glooko and will serve 4,000 diabetes clinics in 23 countries. Their joint platform allows users to download diabetes data from more than 160 different devices.
