Saxton to head Pfizer CME group

Pfizer has hired industry veteran Mike Saxton to lead its medical education group. The move became official last week, said a source familiar with the hiring. Saxton, who joined Wyeth as executive director of professional education support (PES) in 2005, has 18 years’ experience in CME. He will likely report to a national director of Pfizer’s medical group. Pfizer consolidated CME and independent educational grants under the medical division earlier this year. Jennifer Smith, PhD, whom Wyeth brought on in 2005 as senior director of PES, replaces Saxton. Prior to coming to Wyeth, Saxton served as national director, clinical education, at Pharmacia, which Pfizer bought in 2003. A Pfizer spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
