The Rock wrestles diabetes in Novo awareness effort
Novo Nordisk has enlisted action film star and ex-wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the latest celebrity face of its Diabetes Aware campaign with the Entertainment Industry Foundation.
Johnson appears in a print PSA urging families to “Get outside. Play a game. Do something active together.” The PSA boasts the headline: “An active family is a diabetes aware family.”
Johnson said in a release: “I want to encourage families to be active and eat right. Small steps can go a long way in managing diabetes, its complications and raising healthy, active children.”
Past celebrity associations with the campaign include Halle Berry, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Kline and Jon Lovitz. The unbranded effort, which launched in 2004, aims to reach the 24 million Americans living with diabetes as well as the estimated 6.2 million Americans unaware that they have the disease, emphasizing the importance of detection, monitoring and proper management of diabetes.
