The Vendome Group is relaunching Postgraduate Medicine as a beefed-up bimonthly and reintroducing the title’s CME program.
The title will add pages gradually as Vendome focuses on building brand recognition and expanding circulation, said the firm, which is offering a 50% discount on all 2006 issues booked by November. Vendome contracted The Coghlan Group to handle editorial production and Advanced Practice Communications to handle ad sales.
The New York-based publisher also brought in Postgraduate Medicine alums to help with the relaunch of the Twin Cities title. Joe Horvarth, who was director of marketing for the title during the ‘80s and mid-‘90s, now works for the Coghlan Group, which will handle editorial duties on the magazine. Jan Weber, who was supervising senior editor for nearly 20 years, will serve as managing editor of the title, which has also brought on Dr. Nancy Cockson, M.D. to serve as consulting physician editor. Vendome said Dr. Cockson will be the only female physician editor on a primary care title.
Vendome snapped up McGraw-Hill’s Healthcare Information Group, including Healthcare Informatics, Postgraduate Medicine and The Physician and Sportsmedicine, late last year. At the time, group president Dean Vogel said Healthcare Informatics was the prize, and the firm was undecided on whether or not to keep the other two titles. After a sale of the titles fell through, Vendome discontinued The Physician and Sportsmedicine but decided to relaunch Postgraduate Medicine.
Once a leading primary care title, Postgraduate Medicine has been eclipsed in recent years, now languishing at the bottom of the multispecialty field.
