J&J’s Cordis Corporation named Dr. Christian Spaulding worldwide VP of medical affairs.  Spaulding is director of the cardiac cath lab at Cochin Hospital and professor of medicine at Rene Descartes University.

The American College of Physicians (ACP) achieved Accreditation with Commendation from the ACCME. The recognition marks the second consecutive time ACP has accomplished the distinction. Its new term of accreditation continues until March 31, 2016.

The head of the National Institute of Mental Health, Dr. Thomas Insel, wrote in JAMA that American psychiatrists need to break away from a “culture of influence” created by their financial dealings with the industry. In Vermont, psychiatrists received more money from drug companies than all other medical specialists, he noted.

Georgetown University Medical Center will co-host “Prescription for Conflict: Should Industry Fund CME?” a conference featuring Murray Kopelow, Dave Davis, Mike Saxton and PharmedOut.org’s Adriane Fugh-Berman (pictured), among others. The June 25 conference will take place at the Georgetown University Intercultural Center Auditorium.
