global CEO | Havas Health & You

What would you do if you didn’t work in healthcare?

I would be a nurse. In fact, I switched from nursing to accounting at the very last minute as I entered university. While I never dwelled on this, I guess health and wellness was my true passion, since I used my accounting and finance skills to land right back in the same space — very focused on patients, outcomes, and preventive medicine.

Talk about the last time you experienced a truly fist-pumping victory moment.

For me, what matters most is creating an environment where great diverse people thrive. At our global health-and-wellness meeting, Havas Health & You, our folks from around the world were genuinely happy to see one another. I stepped back, took it all in, and am truly proud of the culture we have developed worldwide.

How long ago was the last time you truly took the time to recharge your batteries? What did you do?

I take a family vacation every year; this year it was a spring break island trip with my husband and two kids. One is a social media manager in sports and one a college student majoring in film. I do my best to turn off, but my work is also my passion, and our leaders are members of my extended family, so I cheat a bit — answer emails, make a few client calls each day — and still enjoy my husband and two kids. I’m not big on totally shutting down, but I do know how to relax and live in the moment, whether that is a dinner party, a snorkeling boat, or the golf course.

What are your words to live by? When you think you are finished, do one more thing.

What would you tell your 20-year-old self? Buckle your seatbelt; this will be one exciting ride.

What is one thing you would tell women starting their careers in healthcare marketing?

Be your best, do your best, keep your head down and make genuine friends in the workplace who will support you now and in the future. This network, developed early, can sustain you throughout your career.

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say as you enter?

Two possibilities: Donna, your mother is waiting, or Murph, you did good.
