Amar Urhekar, previously the agency’s EVP leading Asia Pacific ops, has been appointed president of McCann Health Americas, a newly created position, according to a statement.

Urekhar will oversee North and South American professional healthcare operations and will be based in New York.

John Cahill, global CEO of McCann Health, said in the statement that “the advent of the empowered health consumer in both the US and Latin America is creating greater opportunities to expand community heath services and a new orientation towards the patient as a customer.”

He praised Urhekar’s work in Asia Pacific and across the global McCann Health network, saying it “will provide valuable experience-based understanding for how we can capitalize on those opportunities whilst at the same time providing a unique global connection for our clients in the Americas.”

Urhekar joined McCann in 2000 when he founded the agency’s office in India and then moved to managing director of McCann Health Greater China in 2000. He was appointed president of Japan McCann Health group in 2009.

The North American agency networks McCann Healthcare, McCann Regan Campbell Ward, and McCann Torre Lazur were formerly led by Marci Piasecki, who started a new job with the inVentiv Health network earlier this month.
