Lilly named Lilly USA president Dave Ricks SVP and president of Lilly Bio-Medicines, in which role he’ll succeed Bryce Carmine, who is retiring. Ricks assumes responsibility for the US, Japan and Europe operations of Bio-Medicines, which encompasses the therapeutic areas of neuroscience, cardiovascular, autoimmunity, musculoskeletal and urology. Replacing him as Lilly USA president is Alex Azar, who was previously VP US managed healthcare services and Puerto Rico.

J&J marketer Brian Perkins is leaving the company, Advertising Age reported. Perkins, who is VP corporate affairs at J&J, is the top marketing exec at the company, where he’s spent the past 31 years, and will leave in February, the magazine reported.

Merck’s Richard Clark, who brought the company back from the brink in the wake of the Vioxx debacle, stepped down as chairman. Clark was president and CEO from 2005 to 2010, when he turned over the reins to Ken Frazier, who now assumes the responsibility of chairman as well. During his tenure, Clark restored luster to a brand that was badly damaged when he took over.
