Ogilvy Healthworld has announced the following promotions and additions to its medical education division. Ellen McCarthy was promoted to senior scientific associate from scientific associate.  Michelle Goldblum moved up to account executive from assistant account executive. Tara Bernardino joins the division as VP, group account supervisor from Aphorium. Coming aboard as VP, group scientific supervisor is Christopher Bailey, PhD from ApotheCom. Nikki Williams Dietrich has been hired as account supervisor from Health Science Communications. New hire Patrice Melluso is an account supervisor. Melluso previously served as a consultant. Joining as senior account executive is Paul Kenjarski, previously from Educational Resource Systems where he was project manager, sales training. Seth Fritts joins as senior account executive from Strategic Research Institute. Brian Vaught comes on board as account executive.  Previously, he was an office administrator at Christian & Timbers.

MicroMass Communications hired Jeff Burkel to the newly created position of COO. He will direct the agency's operations, including the technical services, operations services, product management, quality assurance, quality control and production/studio teams. He reports to Jay Bigelow, president. The position of COO was previously combined with that of CFO under Phil Stein, who held the position of CFO/COO. In order to better manage its growth, the agency has recently created two separate positions, with Stein in the role of CFO exclusively, and Burkel leading operations.

Public relations firm WeissComm Partners has promoted Diane Weiser to president and COO. Weiser, previously COO, will continue to report to founder and CEO Jim Weiss, who becomes chairman of the company. In February, the San Francisco-based firm brought on Novartis executive director of communications Tom Jones to serve as managing director.

MEDIA Health has appointed two new editorial directors to its staff. Sylvia Barsotti joined as director of health and parenting and Mary Hartley has been named director of nutrition. Prior to joining Health, Barsotti was editor-in-chief at, editor of Adoptive Families magazine and executive editor of Child magazine. As the director of nutrition, Hartley will be responsible for overseeing the diet and nutritional content on Health's Calorie Count Plus site, a free service that provides guidance and support to dieters. Most recently, Hartley has worked in the disease management industry at QMed and at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, where she developed health risk assessments and wide scale patient and physician-based interventions to manage and measure quality of care.
