Bayer HealthCarePharmaceuticals and OnyxPharmaceuticals announced that the FDA has approved a supplemental New DrugApplication for Nexavar (sorafenib) tablets for the treatment of patients withunresectable hepatocellular carcinoma, or liver cancer. Nexavar, an oralanticancer drug, is the first approved systemic therapy for liver cancer andthe only one shown to significantly improve overall survival in patients withthe disease.
 
Wyeth, announcedthat the FDA has approved Protonix(pantoprazole sodium) delayed-release oral suspension, providing adult patientswho cannot swallow tablets with an effective and convenient way to treat theirerosive gastroesophageal reflux disease.

AstraZeneca said theFDA has approved once-daily Seroquel XR(quetiapine fumarate) extended-release tablets for maintenance treatment ofschizophrenia in adult patients.
