Everyday Health hired an ABC News exec to head up its health video and global news efforts.

Paul Slavin, who was SVP for new media at ABC News, in charge of all of the Disney unit’s digital content, mobile and broadband communications, becomes SVP general manager, global news and Everyday Health Studios. He assumes responsibility for expanding news operations, including the new Everyday Health Studios video unit, and reports to EVP/chief product officer Goli Sheikholesiami.

“Our commitment to using video to expand our reach to a greater number of health consumers is clearly demonstrated with the addition of Paul, who has been instrumental in the digital success of ABC News,” said Sheikholesiami in a statement. “He will play a key role in developing projects such as our new Everyday Health television series and work on other groundbreaking ideas.”

Slavin spent 33 years at ABC News, serving as executive producer of “World News Tonight With Peter Jennings” and SVP worldwide newsgathering before overseeing a shakeup of the New Media business unit, including a relaunch of the cable broadband channel, that made it profitable. At Everyday Health, he is tasked with bolstering video production across the company’s portfolio of brands, including EverydayHealth.com, MedPage Today and DailyGlow.

“We are thrilled that Paul Slavin, who has a proven record of high performance and outstanding business results, is joining our energetic and growing health team,” said Everyday Health co-founder and CEO Ben Wolin. “He is a great addition to an already strong management team and he will help us advance our goals of innovation and growth.”
