The ACCME decided that logos are a form of corporate branding and are not appropriate in accredited CME. The group modified its standards to prohibit the logos of companies which ACCME defines as commercial interests from educational materials or disclosure of commercial support.

“We felt that the value of continuing the separation of promotion from education outweighs the concerns,” said Murray Kopelow, ACCME president/CEO, in a video. Changes need to be made by 2015, Kopelow said, adding that it doesn’t apply to when speakers mention a brand name or if a branded device is being used to teach.
