Women are now leaving the workforce at four times the rate of men. What needs to be done to alleviate this? 

The majority of my staff are women, and they are impressive. Losing this talent base is untenable. Women leave for their families, so the solution must lie in better and more affordable childcare options. Do agencies start providing onsite daycare like some of our client companies do? These are the types of solutions we need to explore.

Who was your mentor and what are you doing/have you done to send the elevator back down?

Bob Chandler is my mentor. At the age of 25, I joined Bob to start Chandler Chicco Agency. He always knew when I was ready for the next challenge, and where I would expand my knowledge and skill set.

While I’ve had many people I’ve formally mentored, I also try to make an impact on people in everyday interactions. My hope is that they can take away something from our interaction that will help shape them as a leader. Recently, I had a staffer tell me that I made a huge impact when I replied “family comes first” to his email about missing a staff meeting due to his daughter’s recital. 

What is your golden rule at work?  

Learn something new every day. I know I do. It may be from coworkers, my children or something I’ve read. We all need to be curious and open our minds to new information. That’s why we cultivate a supportive learning environment at our Syneos Health agencies.

How have you coped with the unique challenges of the past 12 months?

I’ve been taking it one day at a time instead of being anxious about what may happen. Being in the moment and focusing on making it a good day has helped me cope during the pandemic. I’ve also sought human interactions with family and friends (masked and socially distanced) to help replace the interactions I no longer have in the halls at work. Zoom can only do so much. Humans crave contact.

Favorite hobby, drink, song.

I love to read. I enjoy being transported to another time with historical fiction. I’m also a geek at heart and will devour the latest book on leadership, team dynamics, why we do what we do, etc.
