One of the most important parts of the office visit in my practice is patient education. When a patient understands their diagnosis, they become an active participant in their care, and as a result feel more empowered. Furthermore, when we as physicians properly educate our patients about their condition at the time of the visit, they are more likely to comply with our treatment. This is why at nearly every visit I print out patient handouts for my patients from the Primary Care Portal. This website developed by Dr. Mark Lees contains a plethora of evidence based clinical resources for the primary care physician and the specialist’s online researching pleasure. While I primarily use the Patient Handouts portion of the site, the website also includes patient questionnaires, clinical and risk calculators, online journals, medical atlases, clinical skills sites, and pharmacology resources. This website is the quick go-to guide for any physician.
