Health media company Formedics bought New Jersey-based AMC Media Group on Wednesday morning.
Founded in 2007, AMC Media Group is a healthcare professional (HCP) portfolio of digital properties and partnerships with medical associations and KOLs.
Formedics said in a press release that AMC Media Group employees will continue in their current roles following the acquisition. As a result of the deal, Formedics has nearly doubled its workforce.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Formedics, which oversees Physician’s Weekly and Figure 1, a digital case collaboration tool and mobile app for HCPs, claimed the transaction would expand its reach by more than 60% to 1.5 million opted-in HCPs.
This transaction is a significant development for both companies.
In late June, Physician’s Weekly and Figure 1 announced the launch of Formedics as a new parent company. Weeks later, Formedics launched OncWeekly, a digital hub for oncology-centered content.
Now, Formedics oversees 25 digital properties and is positioned to further pursue opportunities in peer-to-peer HCP engagement and learning.
“AMC Media Group’s portfolio is vital to Formedics becoming the go-to partner for HCPs seeking trusted peer learning and medical information to support better clinical decisions,” Formedics CEO Greg Jackson said in a statement. “Underlying our HCP network is a proprietary data engine performing complex algorithms on user behaviors and preferences across our audience of 1.5 million HCPs. This distinct capability to continuously identify the most resonant content while connecting relevant peers and branded messaging redefines the landscape for medical communication and peer learning.”
The acquisition also comes just over one month after Formedics named Jonathan Lee, who most recently served as VP of software engineering at Red Ventures, as chief technology officer.

The deal was announced nearly eight months after healthcare education and events company HMP Global entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Drug Channels Institute.
