Pharma and device companies reined in commercial support for CME in 2013—the sixth consecutive annual decrease—data released today by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) show.
The amount of commercial funding reported by ACCME-accredited providers fell by $12.8 million in real dollars last year, or 1.9% vs. the 2012 level, to $649.5 million. It was a smaller decrease than 2012’s 10% decline.
When state-accredited providers were accounted for, the support number dropped 2.2% to $660.0 million, vs. $674 million the year before—although that was still much narrower than 2012’s 10.3% slide.
MM&M will run a deeper analysis of the data tomorrow.
