AbbVie announced Monday morning that chief legal officer Laura J. Schumacher is retiring.

Schumacher served at the company for more than three decades, ultimately achieving the rank of chief legal officer and vice chairman of external affairs. In addition to her role overseeing certain transaction functions for the company, Schumacher also founded and led the AbbVie Foundation.

Perry C. Siatis, who serves as SVP and deputy general counsel, will take over for Schumacher following a transition period. Siatis has been with the company for nearly two decades.

“Although she is clearly one of the finest legal minds in the industry and has spearheaded any number of complex legal and regulatory issues for us, her contributions to AbbVie go far beyond the legal department,” AbbVie CEO Richard A. Gonzalez said in a statement. “I have relied on her as a trusted strategic counselor and invaluable colleague. The entire Board of Directors joins me in wishing her all the best in her retirement from the company.”

AbbVie will release its Q3 earnings on October 28 before the markets open.

In its most recent earnings report, the company recorded net revenues of $14.5 billion, up 4.5% year-over-year, thanks in part to its growing immunology portfolio.
