Batley is an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience in clinical research, marketing and sales roles at pharma and clinical research organizations.
He most recently served as CEO of Cello Health Communications Europe before adding the role of chairman to his responsibilities. Before Cello, Batley founded iS Health Group, a healthcare communications agency, which he led as CEO from 2003 to 2021.
In his new position, Batley will be based out of London, lead SCIRIS’ senior executive team in charge of strategy and operations and join the company’s board of directors.
“I was looking for a fresh challenge where I felt my experience and skills could add value, and the opportunity to take the helm at SCIRIS at such a pivotal point in the company’s journey, while the world around us is continuing to evolve, was instantly appealing to me,” Batley said in a statement. “A business is nothing without good people, and I have already been bowled over by those I have met, as well as by the meaningful work our teams are delivering for clients. With such solid foundations in place, I am hugely excited for the road ahead, which will see us further strengthening our offer and realising our full potential as a global healthcare communications powerhouse – all guided by our mission to deliver intelligent solutions, inspired by science.”
SCIRIS Chairperson Viv Adshead welcomed Batley’s hire, praising his deep industry connections and noting that he expects the company to “continue its upwards trajectory.”
Batley’s appointment is the latest healthcare agency move across the pond.
Havas Health & You named Paul Kinsella as chief creative officer of HH&Y Europe in November, months after announcing Elizabeth Egan, who formerly served as president of Havas Lynx Group, would serve as CEO of the division.
Not to be outdone, Grey Health & Wellness announced plans in October to expand operations to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with Morten V. Frederiksen leading as president.
