Agency holding company Interpublic Group has promoted Eileen Kiernan, former head of dedicated Johnson & Johnson unit J3, amid other leadership moves. 

IPG named Kiernan as CEO of media agency UM as it shuffles executives across the holding company. Interpublic named Philippe Krakowsky as COO, making him the heir apparent to CEO Michael Roth, according to The Wall Street Journal. Daryl Lee is taking over Krakowsky’s previous role as chief executive officer of IPG Mediabrands, while Kiernan is replacing Lee at UM. 

Krakowsky will oversee Acxiom, Carmichael Lynch, Deutsch, Hill Holliday, Huge and R/GA. He will continue to hold his previous roles of chief strategy officer, chief talent officer and chairman of IPG Mediabrands.

Kiernan has served as global president of J3, UM’s media unit dedicated to Johnson & Johnson, since 2015. Previously, she was chief marketing officer at UM for three years. Earlier in her career, she worked in marketing for media brands NBCUniversal, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Health and Newsweek.

Last month, CVS Health consolidated most of its $159 million U.S. media account with UM, which will handle media buying and planning for CVS Health and Aetna. 

In Q2, IPG reported $2.1 billion in revenue and 3% organic growth, with net income up 16.9% to $169.5 million. Roth highlighted healthcare as a growth area in the period. 

IPG owns healthcare networks McCann Health and FCB Health, along with agencies such as Healix, Golin, Virgo Health and ReviveHealth.
