Lance Armstrong and singer/songwriter Anastacia feature in a Newsweek supplement promoting participation in clinical trials for cancer patients.Published by the Coalition of Cooperative Cancer Groups and underwritten by Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Amgen and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the eight-page supplement will appear in this week’s national edition of the news magazine, with the headline “Knowledge is Power: Lance Armstrong Encourages Everyone to Learn About Cancer Clinical Trials.”The Coalition said only 5 percent of cancer patients participate in clinical trials. “Cancer research is surging forward into a new age,” said Coalition president and chairman Robert Comis, M.D., “but too few patients are aware that trial participation is an option as part of their treatment.”
