Pfizer and Sanofi-Aventis filed a new drug application with the FDA for Exubera (inhaled human insulin powder) a dry powder form of insulin that is inhaled into the lungs.

The FDA and Cephalon warned against prescribing epilepsy medication Gabitril for other uses because the drug can cause seizures. The FDA said it was aware of at least 30 cases of seizures in patients without epilepsy, most who had been prescribed the drug to treat a psychiatric disorder.

The FDA has approved AstraZeneca’s angiotensin receptor blocker Atacand (candesartan cilexetil) for the treatment of heart failure to reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular causes and reduce hospitalizations from heart failure.

In an international study, researchers said stroke victims given Novo Nordisk’s hemophilia drug NovoSeven were one third less likely to die and three times as likely to survive without severe disability.
