The FDA has approved the single indication orphan drug status of Bausch & Lomb’s Retisert (fluocinolone acetonide intravitreal implant) for the treatment of chronic non-infectious uveitis affecting the posterior segment of the eye.

The FDA has approved Schering-Plough’s Asmanex Twisthaler (mometasone furoate inhalation powder) for the first-line maintenance treatment of asthma as preventive therapy in patients 12 years of age and older.

sales and marketing.

Watson Pharmaceuticals has named Edward Heimers as executive vice president of the company
and president of Watson’s Brand division. Heimers joins from Innovex, where he was senior vice
president, marketing.

Novartis has appointed Kim Stratton as vice president, respiratory and dermatology franchise.
Stratton relocated to New Jersey from Basel, Switzerland, where she had been global head, respiratory and dermatology, Novartis Pharma AG.

Stratagem Healthcare Communications has named Brian Kolasinski as an account supervisor.
He held the same title at Corbett Accell Healthcare Group. Larry Septoff was named group copy
director. Septoff is a veteran copywriter with experience at FCB Healthcare and Harrison and Star. Noel Garingan was named art supervisor. Garingan joins from Corbett Accel’s New York office.

Publicis Groupe has announced the formation of the Publicis Public Relations and Corporate Communications Group (PRCC), a unit that will align all public relations, public affairs and corporate communications resources. Louis Capozzi, most recently chairman and chief
executive of Manning Selvage & Lee  (MS&L), was named chairman of the new group.

Sudler & Hennessey has promoted Rob Rogers to president of S&H Asia-Pacific. For the past two years Rogers was managing director of S&H Australia.

Palio Communications has promoted Tony Rodriguez from assistant account executive to account
executive.

Torre Lazur McCann West has appointed Anne Loomis as executive vice president and director of client services. Loomis, who joins after a dozen years with Pacific Communications, will oversee execution on the three new accounts and Neurodex, a neurology drug from Avanir Pharmaceuticals.

Compass Healthcare Communications, an online marketing firm, has named Stephen Pearson an
account manager. Prior to Compass, he was with Insight Interactive Group, an online advertising agency that specializes in pharmaceuticals and OTC. Jamie Picone was named a project manager. She was with the Marketing Communications Group at Novartis Pharmaceuticals.

The Hal Lewis Group has named Tony Buchsbaum as creative director, copy. He was the associate creative director with Gillespie Advertising, a division of McCann-Erickson Worldgroup.

CommonHealth has promoted Susan DiDonato from senior vice president, human resources to executive vice president, chief talent officer. Rachel Arnold, the senior manager of corporate communications has announced plans to leave the company. Keryn Rakow, who currently
works in account management at Ferguson, will fill Arnold’s role.

Publicis’ Leo Burnett Worldwide chairman and chief executive, Linda Wolf has announced that she will retire on April 30, transferring control of the network’s worldwide operations to Tom Bernardin, current president and chief executive of the US operations. He will assume the title of chairman and chief executive effective May 1.
